Wedge Antilles

WHO?

Wedge Antilles.

So, he's a pilot of some sort, yeah?

You could say that.

In fact, Wedge is THE MAN.

Fact: Wedge Antilles saved Luke's life so he could blow up the Death Star in Ep IV: A New Hope

Fact: Wedge served on Hoth, and was the first to take down one of the AT-AT's in that battle

Fact: Wedge fired the shot that killed the second Death Star

I guess all this means a swift trip into Star Wars territory, huh?

Absolutely. My site, my choice of subjects.

Wedge Antilles is a true hero. His parent's were killed when Wedge was only fifteen, but, with a little bit of help from his friends, he survived, even hunting down the pirates who killed his folks. Wedge is the finest pilot of his era. A born leader, he spends his time commanding Rogue or Wraith Squadron, and later an entire Rogue Wing, comprised of many different squadrons.

The infamous X-Wing

At the time of the first Death Star assault, Wedge was a fresh faced nineteen years of age. By twenty three, he had taken command of Rogue Squadron, and had established his combat reputation. He led the Rogues on many missions, including the capture of Coruscant, centre of the Empire. His crowning triumph, many feel, was finally escaping the shadow of Luke 'I need the Force to be special' Skywalker, and proving himself a better pilot than Farmboy could ever be.

Often Wedge's achievements occurred separately from the focus of the film's 'main heroes'. Reticent by nature, he frequently passed credit to his friends, like Han and Leia, who needed the Ewok's to beat up a bunch of bad guys.

Wedge even allowed the glory to pass onto the most useless of all the hero's, the Jedi Knights.

This pack of pansies got wiped out, galaxy wide, by an asthmatic - Darth Vader- and a pensioner, the Emperor.

Clearly, only when Wedge was around was the galaxy in safe hands.

Happily, Wedge survives the war against the Empire, and settles down with the love of his life, the charming Iella. The two live happily amidst the rebuilding of the galaxy, together with their daughters, Miry and Syal.

For those of you into that sort of thing, I've written a shortish piece of Rogue Squadron fanfic which you can find here. On similar lines, check out the fantastic, but as yet unfinished Return to Innocence, by Alisa Choate, which is every bit as good as, if not better than, the original novels. I've finished a second story, starring Wes Janson, and an ancient Dark Jedi, which is called, unsurprisingly, Rogue Jedi.

Some of my all time favourite Wedge moments...

Blowing up the Death Star (Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi)

Capturing Coruscant (X-Wing Book 2: Wedge's Gamble)

The ultimate double entendre: "Look at the SIZE of that thing." (Star Wars IV: A New Hope)

I don't just work on fanfic starring the Rogues. I have other pieces, which have yet to recieve any complaints. They're routinely posted at Star Wars Fanfic but I've decided to include them here as well

These three pieces are the story of the second Star Wars trilogy, as told through the eyes of an unlauded Rebel soldier.

A Blow For The Rebellion: Early Start

A Blow For The Rebellion: Return

This series, meanwhile, tells the story of a group of trainee pilots, as they attempt to qualify for positions in the New Republic Starfighter Command.
