Kintbury
Well, I went to Kintbury, and did lots of stuff. There were two birthdays, which sparked drinking sessions, and one dunking in a handily placed ocean. I'm back now, and raring to get on with life in general, and resits and agency work in particular.
Before I get into that, however, let me guide you through my Kintbury experience. (By the way, this is intended for people like Matt and Jonathan, who know none of these people. If I'm a little off centre with my descriptions, apologies. And if I get any names wrong, then please write and let me know.)
The full group, plus the young team
Gp 1 Vicky, Matt, Hannah, Marie, Jo-Maria, Ed
Vicky is wonderful, and was part of the team. Also part of my cabaret act.
Matt plays guitar extremely well, is extremely funny, and great fun to hang with.
Rachel is this girls name. Not Hannah. Apologies.
Marie bullied me into doing cabaret, but was really nice.
Jo is dating my Kintbury room-mate. Lucky sod.
Ed plays the mandolin. Bizarrely.
Gp 2.
Richard, Tom, Louise, Jude
Ed, Hannah
Fr. David
Richard is only 16, and the baby of the group. Bless.
Tom is 6'5, and the only K-ite taller than me.
Louise is friends with Danny and Jo-Maria. Drove them down from Manchester, and stayed sane doing it. Very impressive.
You all know Jude
Ed is the kick ass team member. Plays guitar, and accompanied my cabaret group.
Hannah knew everyone, laughed at everything, and juggles really well.
David is a priest in his 30's. Very good friends with Marie. Very cool. Ask about the pickle.
Gp 3 Br. Bennett, Karleen, Zoe, Phil, Anna, Emma, Chris
Bennett is one of the ruling class at Kintbury. Lead the holiness.
Karleen was a strange girl, who only I seemed to like.
Zoe turned 19 on the day of the trip to the beach. Guess where she ended up.
Phil was very, very, cool. Funny, owns own car, friendly.
Anna was one of the Steps tribute act that was very, very good.
Emma chased Andrew (Gp 5) all week, pulled him on Friday, and snogged Rachel to celebrate. Wey-hey
Chris was made an honorary Dan for the purposes of the 4-a-side footy.
Gp. 4 Dan, Rose, Rachel, Baby Claire, Paul, Laura
Dan was one of THE Dans. We beat them in the semis of the footy, but they were everyone's favourites.
Rose is one of the underlings of Tony
Rachel shared a kiss with Emma. We liked her... Me, her and Danny stayed up till 6am on Saturday chatting
Baby Claire was once the youngest person on a Yes Week. The name stuck. Poor her. Off to uni in September.
Paul played on our team for the football. Nice guy. Jude thought so too.
Laura is one of Jude's mates. Bigger gutter mind than me or Michal, if that's possible.
Gp. 5 Clare, Me, Dan, Br. Tony
Sara, Andrew, Dianne
Clare is wonderful. Great fun to be around. Has just turned 18, but has yet to tell how she celebrated. Hmmm.
Dan is another of the Dan's. I mentioned that we beat them, I think.
Tony is a top bloke, especially for an ex-maths teacher. Apprently he runs the show, not Bennett.
Sara is one of the young team, and a fervent Chelsea fan. Shame about her Newcastle shirt then. One of my cabaret act.
Andrew is an English boy living in Glasgow. Hard as nails, then. Now officially an item with Emma. Awww....
Dianne is a Manc lass, lovely, but thinks I'm the devil incarnate.
Gp. 6 Carmel, Graham, Danny, Charmaine, Cat
Elizabeth
Carmel is another underling, but nice
Graham looks like a mad, lairy, lager drinking nutter. Looks can be so deceiving. Sometimes.
Danny was my room-mate. Whiling away the wee hours waiting to sneak out was painless thanks to him.
Charmaine was one of the members of my cabaret act. Great voice, and claims I gave her the confidence to sing. Weirdo...
Cat also sung with us, also has a great voice, and gives great hugs.
Elizabeth is funny, friendly, sings, and plays the keyboard. Typical perfect K-ite.
Gp 7 Simon, Helen, Kay, Cara, Gary, MC
Simon is another of my football team. Quiet, but ferocious tackles.
Helen is Graeme's sis. That's all I know
Kay is on the team. Very friendly, very huggy.
Cara is a mad Scouser girl. She went on to be on the team the following year, and was very good :-)
Gary is... like Terence, kinda, but slightly more reserved. Final member of our football team, goalie, captain, and player of the tournament.
MC is another team member, and a great singer. Makes all the work she does look hard, so that people help her with it. Genius.
So, that was Kintbury in the summer of 2000. I'd go on to return twice more, and maybe in the future as well. It must be said, though, that given the frame of mind in which I approached the week, it was fantastic, and I find it hard ot believe that any place exists that could bring me so much pleasure.
